Jose Antonio Rodriguez, Jr., an Eagle resident and valued member of the Colorado Mountain News Media team, died June 4. He was 50 years old.
Jose was born in Havana, Cuba in 1957. When he was 3 years old his family moved to Lakeland, Fla. He attended Carlton Palmore Elementary, Lakeland Junior and Senior High schools in Lakeland, where he played baseball and football and graduated in 1975. His friends say he majored in spring break.
Jose attended Polk Community College for two years. In 1983 he married Beth Gauvin. They had two sons, Ricky and Billy.
In 1992 the family moved to Colorado and Jose went to work for Colorado Mountain New Media where he was employed until his death in 2008.
Jose loved motorcycles, baseball, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Gators and Jack.
He enjoyed taking trips with Beth on his Harley. Every year, they always enjoyed a trip to Sturgis, S.D. Every weekend found Jose riding his Harley somewhere.
Jose never met a stranger and had friends from the East Coast to the West Coast.
Jose is survived by his wife Beth, two sons Billy and Ricky; his mother Olga Rodriguez; sister Marie Bellucci and her husband Ed and son Eddie; aunt, Rosalie Rodriguez and Uncle Angel Gonzalez; and numerous cousins and many friends.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 21 at the Lazy J in Wolcott from 1 to 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
A memorial fund to help ofset Joses medical costs has been set up at U.S. Bank locations throughout the valley and with the Vail Valley Charitable Fund.
