Dillon Reservoir outflow cut

Denver Water cites need to fill South Platte reservoirs

Print Comment
Boating in the Lower Blue will be winding down, at least temporarily, after a short and sweet season, as Denver Water drastically cuts the outflow from Dillon Reservoir.

Water-resource engineer Bob Steger announced Monday that releases from the reservoir will drop from 514 to 250 cubic feet per second, citing the need to fill Dillon Reservoir and to divert substantial amounts of water through the Roberts Tunnel to fill Denver Water's South Platte reservoirs.

Dillon Reservoir is still about 20,000 acre feet short of being full. Steger said the outflow could be cut again this week.

Additionally, Steger said, the risk of flooding below the Dillon Dam has diminished significantly in the past few weeks.
