A-Rod, Madonna and baby names

You’re Out!

Alex Rodriguez, America’s highest paid baseball player, may be hitting home runs on the field, but off the field, he is striking out. Since being romantically linked to Madonna, and therefore instigating all those Madonna and Guy Richie divorce rumors, A-Rod’s love life and personal reputation has been on the line. One may wonder why after Madonna released a statement denying an affair with the Yankee’s third baseman, that his wife, Cynthia, would so quickly file for a divorce.

Well, it seems that the Madonna affair rumor was the icing on the cake. Apparently Cynthia Rodriguez has been plagued by her husband’s infidelity for years and although the Madonna rumor appears to be just that, it was the last straw for Cynthia, who claimed in court papers that Alex had been “unfaithful” and had “emotionally abandoned his wife and children.”

A-Rod makes an abundant $30 million annual paycheck, but expect a big chunk of that to go to his wife, including their $12 million home in Florida. It sounds like she’s going to drag him through the dirt he deserves to ride in!

In other bitter divorce news, Christie Brinkley has started her divorce process against her cheating husband, architect Peter Cook. The former couple are in a custody battle over their two children after the supermodel discovered her husband’s affairs and filed for divorce after 10 years of marriage.

Cook admitted to having adulterous affairs with numerous women, including two teenage girls. It’s highly unlikely that Christie will have to worry about being granted full custody, but just to be safe, the court appointed a psychiatrist to examine the estranged couple and their children in order to fully evaluate the situation.

The result? The psychiatrist testified that Cook is a “narcissist ... and while most people need some ‘feeding’ of their egos, Mr. Cook has an insatiable appetite.” Needless to say, he recommended that Brinkley be awarded sole custody of the children.

More Madonna

At least she’s also making news for her music. The pop icon is about to begin her “Sticky and Sweet” tour in a month and it will likely be the must-see concert of the summer (at least it should be with the pricing ranging from $65-$400 per ticket). She just announced that she’s giving her audience more than it bargained for by adding Britney Spears to the show.

Now, you may be thinking that the two pop-stars are going to re-enact their famous kiss from the 2003 MTV Music Awards, but Madonna is apparently going to play it safe with troubled Britney. Instead of risking a live performance, Britney is going to film something for Madonna’s tour, which according to Madonna’s rep, is a secret and will be a big surprise.

The Name Game

You may be counting your blessings when you’re a celebrity offspring, but that’s once you can get past the name that you were given. The latest examples are Levi Alves, son to Matthew McConaughey and his girlfriend, Camilla, and Sunday Rose, daughter to Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, respectively. Levi, born on Monday, July 7, was not inspired by the denim (though it wouldn’t be surprising coming from his dad), but instead came from a more spiritual place. Matthew revealed that the name came from the Bible and that Levi was another name for the apostle Matthew.

Sunday Rose, who was also born on Monday, got her name from an early 20th century artist’s muse. The muse “was a key maker and shaker in the arts at the beginning of the century,” according to Nicole’s father, who suggested the name to the famous couple.

Deirdre Shattuck resides in Breckenridge and maintains her enthusiasm for celebrity gossip even while living in the mountains.
