Embezzlement sentencing rescheduled

The sentencing of Trudy Pillow, who recently pleaded guilty to embezzling $40,000 from Ryan’s Recovery tow service in Breckenridge, was postponed for the third time on Monday when her attorney, Jeffrey Ryan, was unable to make it to the Summit County Justice Center because of car troubles.

Ryan Scheuermann, owner of Ryan’s Recovery, found it ironic that Ryan was in need of a tow truck, and he actually offered his company’s services to retrieve Ryan in Kremmling, where he said his car had broken down.

“I would of towed him for free to get him back in the county,” Scheuermann said. “He said he was stuck in Kremmling, but I called every tow company in the area, and nobody heard anything. I even called AAA.”

Scheuermann reported Pillow to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office for embezzlement in June 2006, and the former secretary turned herself in on an arrest warrant a year later.

A jury found Pillow guilty in May. She could face up 12 years in prison and a fine of as much as $75,000 for the Class 3 felony.

“This whole thing has been going on for two years,” Scheuermann said. “The guilty verdict is in, but it looks like we’re still playing these games.”

Pillow’s sentencing has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. on Aug. 4.
