Chaffee County town bans outdoor watering

Print Comment
PONCHA SPRINGS — A dry summer is taking its toll on the town of Poncha Springs in Chaffee County.

Town administrator Patricia Alderton has notified water customers that any and all outdoor watering is banned.

That restriction -- issued last week -- remains in effect.

Authorities are calling 2008 the fourth-driest year on record.

Officials say the water tanks in Poncha Springs aren’t completely dry, but they are at dangerously low levels — especially since the town’s water supply is also used for fire protection.

Alderton says the more area residents conserve water, the quicker the outdoor watering ban can be lifted.
