Breckenridge Main Street hosts weekend art festival

BRECKENRIDGE — Catch the seventh annual Breckenridge Main Street Art Festival, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through Sunday, at the north end of Main at Wellington Road.
There is free admission to the event, which features more than 120 artisans from around the United States.

On Saturday at 1 p.m., the National Repertory Orchestra will provide classical music for the art patrons. The NRO will be promoting their upcoming concert, “The Dance Hall” which is Sunday afternoon and Jarvi’s Favorites on Wednesday night, both at the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge.

Highlights of the seventh annual art festival include artist JP Garner. Garner has been a professional artist since 1982 working in watercolor, pastel and acrylic and precious metals. His work has grown progressively larger, first with jewelry, then Southwestern and African masks of copper, then larger sculptures of iron. His wall sculptures are finished by painting with enamels, texturing them to sometimes appear like fabric and embellishing them with chemical patinas, gilders paste and powdered metals.

“I have always been fascinated with symbolism and allegory so I named my website Iron Oracle because of a desire for my works to enigmatically resound in story,” Garner said. His website is located online at ironoracle@msn.com.

Mountain Art Festivals will present one more Summit County Art Festival later this summer. The 33rd annual Gathering at the Great Divide Art Festival will be held in Breckenridge Aug. 31 through Sept. 1 at Main Street and Wellington Road.
