Alex Miller rejoins Daily as editor

Alex Miller, editor of the Vail Daily and former editor of the Summit Daily News, will return to Summit as the paper's editor effective Aug. 25.

He will replace Ryan Slabaugh, who has accepted a position with the Sierra Nevada Media Group, which publishes newspapers in Nevada and California and is affiliated with the Vail and Summit newspapers.

Miller, who worked at the Summit Daily and affiliated weeklies from 1993 to 2000, has been at the Vail Daily since March, 2005 and was named editor of the Colorado Mountain News Media daily in December, 2007.

"We're delighted to have Alex back at the Summit Daily. He's an experienced editor with a proven record of excellence and a Summit County local," said Jim Morgan, publisher of the Summit Daily News.

Miller, a 1982 graduate of Summit High School, earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado-Boulder. He currently lives in Frisco with his wife, Jen, and four of their five children.

"I have really enjoyed my time at the Vail Daily," Miller said. "It's a great group of people and a fine community newspaper. I'm very much looking forward to working again at the Summit Daily. It's a newspaper and a community I know extremely well."

Slabaugh, who has been the Summit Daily editor since 2005, will be taking on some new challenges in his move west.

"Ryan's opportunity with our sister company is a good one and we know he'll bring strong editorial leadership to the newspapers there," Morgan said.

Slabaugh, a DePauw University graduate who started with CMNM in Vail as a sports writer in 2002, said he gained much by being the Summit Daily editor. His last day in the position was Friday.

"I feel fortunate to have had the chance to lead a great newsroom in an even greater community, a community which supports the paper by expecting it to do great things," Slabaugh said.
