SUMMIT COUNTY — Silverthorne resident Travis Hanush is expected to plead guilty to assault next month in the stabbing of a younger teen at a house party in July.
Hanush, 18, is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 8 and will ask for five years in the Department of Corrections, according to deputy district attorney Scott Turner.
Hanush was arrested for attempted murder on July 13, and already has spent 45 days in the Summit County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Witnesses at the party said Hanush was in an argument about money with the unidentified teen when he pulled a knife and stabbed him in the chest, snapping off the knife blade, before fleeing from the residence.
Police met the injured teen on his way to the hospital with friends and rushed him to a waiting Flight-for-Life helicopter bound for a hospital in Denver.
“He will most likely enter the plea deal on Sept. 8, but he wont be sentenced at that time,” Turner said.
Hanush was scheduled to appear before District Court Judge David Lass but, given his recent retirement, the case is likely to be turned over to new Judge Karen Romeo.
