The Friends of Dillon Ranger District would like to extend a huge thank you to our friends with Mt. Mentors.
On Tuesday, August 12 their group of seven kids and two mentors joined efforts with FDRD for a weed pull in the critical "Wedge" parcel of Cucumber Gulch in Breckenridge. In just three-hours, the kids eradicated 17 bags (approx. 100+ gallons) of noxious weeds from this critical area, including false chamomile, toadflax and west coast tar-weed.
Smokey Bear was even on-hand at the end to thank the kids by handing out goodie bags to all the participants.
The FDRD is proud to partner with Mt. Mentors in educating kids about forest stewardship. Our national forest lands need new stewards, and the kids with Mt. Mentors are the perfect example of the willingness and dedication it takes to be a true steward of not just the forest but of planet earth.
Again, FDRD and the USFS thank the Mt. Mentors for their participation. We had a great time with you all and look forward to seeing you again soon.
