BEST SNOWBOARDING MOUNTAIN

1. Copper Mountain
A laid back vibe along with sick terrain parks keep Copper as the favorite
mountain for snowboarders for another year. Dig into the bowls on a powder
day, rip it up in the trees or show off in the terrain park. If you’re not ready to
go in the big park, Copper provides a beginner track with mini kickers and small
rails. Once you’ve mastered the basics, Catalyst park features a 430-foot long
Superpipe with 18-foot walls set on a 16-degree pitch. Known for its consistent
conditions, even in the early season, it’s one of the best maintained pipes in the state.

BEST SKIING MOUNTAIN

1. Breckenridge
Breckenridge is the perfect skiing mountain, with something to satisfy
everyone, whether they are complete beginners or experienced skiers.
Midday grooming allows you the opportunity to make first tracks, even
if you only got up at lunchtime and there is a large selection of runs,
varying in steepness for different abilities. Fancy more of a challenge? Go
to the top of the mountain and try out some of the bowls or the mogul
fields on peak 10. Oh, and there’s no need to worry about taking that
T-bar: Breckenridge’s Imperial lift is the highest in North America and
will take you right to the top (barring the 150 ft hike you can do to really
feel like you’re standing on top of the world). Throw in terrain parks of
varying sizes for freestyle skiers, including the biggest jumps in the USA,
cafes on the mountain and the new gondola to get you up and started
and you’ve got some great days to look forward to during the ski season.

1. Sapphire Point
There is nothing more relaxing than looking out over the Dillon Reservoir with a
few good friends and a picnic basket, so it comes as no surprised that 199 people
voted Sapphire Point the best place to have a picnic in Summit County. Located
off Swan Mountain Road in Dillon, Sapphire Point offers plenty of picnic tables and panoramic views that are hard to beat.

BEST PLACE TO CROSS COUNTRY SKI

1. Frisco Nordic Center
Whether you enjoy cruising on a groomed track or skating for a good cardio
workout, Frisco Nordic Center offers more that 40 kilometers of beginner and
expert terrain- groomed daily. Plus, it provides 13 kilometers of snowshoe trails, which traverse the peninsula of Dillon Reservoir.

BEST HIKING TRAIL

1. Mohawk Lakes Trail
Just south of Breckenridge off of Highway 9, hikers can find one of the best
day hikes in Summit County on the Mohawk Lakes Trail. The 7-mile loop trail
meanders through an old mining ruin before climbing to the Continental Falls
and Mohwak Lake, which offers incredible views of Breckenridge to the north.

1. Glenwood Springs
For those looking to get out of Summit County for a day, Glenwood
Springs offers a plethora of year-round activities that appeal to visitors of
all ages. In addition to bike paths, rafting trips, and canyon hiking trails,
Glenwood Springs boasts walking tours of historic caves and caverns
which date back some five million years ago.

1. Carter Park
Located at the south end of High Street in Breckenridge, Carter Park is a
paradise for locals and canines alike. As one of the few dog parks in Summit
County, Carter Park boasts a large fenced in area where dogs of all shapes and
sizes can romp around together. The park also features a playground, soccer
field, tennis and volleyball courts, and several covered picnic tables.

BEST PLACE TO PEOPLE WATCH

1. Breck Main Street
You never know who you will run into on Main St. in Breckenridge, so that must
be why 236 people voted it the best place to people watch in the county. You can
always plan on seeing a diverse mix of people on Main St., from world-renown
pro skiers to retired couples from Florida. But remember, it’s not very polite to
stare so try to keep the gawking to a minimum.

1. Breckenridge Golf Course
Nestled at 9,324 feet above sea level, the Breckenridge Golf Club can boast that it
is only municipality in the world to own a Jack Nicklaus designed, 27-hole course.
The club, which is owned by the town of Breckenridge, has three 18-hole courses,
and was named Toughest Mountain Course by Colorado Golfer magazine.

A Tiki Bar at 9,000 ft? You better believe it. This deck offers some of the best views
in Summit County, and when you kick back with one of the bar’s famous Rum

catch up with friends during happy hour.

1. Not telling. It’s a secret.
Any experienced angler will tell you that a secret fishing spot is something you
rarely reveal. But luckily in Summit County, the Blue River, Colorado River and
Gore Creek offer Gold Medal waters packed with brown, brook and rainbow
trout. So grab your waders and head for the closest river, because the next best
fishing spot is just waiting to be discovered.

1. Ten Mile (Frisco-Copper)
Nestled between the massive walls of Ten Mile canyon, the 7-mile bike path from
Frisco to Copper is a relaxing ride that the whole family can enjoy together. The
route offers scenic views of Tenmile Creek and the surrounding mountain ranges
and, if you’re feeling motivated, the path continues all the way up Vail Pass.

1. Sapphire Point
As the sunset coalesces in an array of pink, orange, yellow and blues, reflecting
off the water, people can’t help but feel a bit romantic. So if you’re looking for
one of the most beautiful places to commit to a lifetime of dreams together, park
at the turnoff at Swan Mountain Road, take a short hand-in-hand stroll and pop
the question at the overlook. Perched high above the lake, it offers a different
perspective on the splendor of Summit County. But make sure no romantics are
ahead of you; Sapphire Point received 139 votes as the Best Place to Propose.

1. Ski Tip Lodge
What could be more romantic that a former 1860s stage coach transformed
into a cozy bed and breakfast and gourmet restaurant? Our voters couldn’t
think of anything. The Ski Tip Lodge, tucked among the wetlands of the Snake
River, offers a four-course dinner menu created by chefs that rotate daily.
It consistently receives high reviews for it’s innovative entrees and stellar
service. Plus, its charming and elegant fireplace is the perfect place to snuggle
up with your loved one and enjoy the famous desserts, a drink or coffee.

1. Arnie J. Green
Arnie Green doesn’t like to put himself in a musically category, and the great
thing is he really doesn’t have to because listeners are always delighted to hear
anything he chooses to play. Arnie has released two albums, “Shades of Green”
and “River of Ice,” and he can be found playing at numerous Summit County venues throughout the year.

1. On the Mountain
You never know who you will meet cruising down the slopes at many of the local
ski resorts, so it’s no wonder that many in Summit County voted on the mountain
as one of the best places to meet a potential suitor. Cold weather gear leaves
much to the imagination, and that masked snowboarder ripping though the halfpipe
may be a Harvard-educated stockbroker, you just never know.
“There is no where else that people go to more often than the slopes!”

Having painted the mountain scenery and historic towns of the Colorado Rockies
for many years, Ann Weaver’s original watercolor paintings can be found in
numerous galleries throughout Summit County. Her paintings have appeared as
book and magazine covers, and she was even commissioned by the
Breckenridge library to paint a mural on local history.

1. Bonnie Norling-Wakeman
For the past 15 years, Bonnie Norling-Wakeman has been painting murals in
homes and businesses throughout Summit and Eagle counties. Bonnie painted
the back drop portrait murals for the Lutheran Synod conference in 2003, and
was even invited to hand some of her pieces at a peace conference in Italy in 2004.

back drop that is pretty hard to beat.

Steve Burell is no stranger to our Best Of Summit list, and this year 102 people
voted him the best voice on the airwaves.
“Of course, everyone likes me,” he said. “Except for the criminally insane

So we guess it just makes sense that he was voted the cream of the crop, you’d really have to be insane not to.

1. Snake River Saloon
In Summit County its easy to find great bars and restaurants, but Snake River Saloon
offers an evening in a league of it’s own. In combining dining, dancing and live music, the Snake River Saloon is a unique place where you can do everything under one roof. The owner and manager, Jim Shields, has booked live entertainment there on the weekends for the last 33 years and employees and customers alike remain proud of the quality of live entertainers, not to mention the great dance floor gets people up on their feet. The Saloon has always been a spot for the locals of Keystone and gets repeat business from people traveling to Summit County during the ski season.

time for a change. He took a cue from his wife Lisa, a licensed cosmetologist, and

“It was a pretty big shift from cabinetry work, but I really enjoy working with my
hands,” James said. “I love making my clients happy and leaving them looking good.”
James works with his wife at A Colour of Harmony Salon & Spa in Dillon, and last year the salon was voted Summit County’s best new business.
