Is that a case of profiling in Peggy Weintraub’s letter? (Sept. 2). Apparently, some “leftover lobbyists from the DNC made their way to Breckenridge with a few $$ to sway the town council” on the skateboarding decision.
Geez, Peg, is all this obvious Republican angst coming from a healthy retired Jewish couple who haven’t lived here full-time until recently? (just guessing, and, you know, the name … by the way, i’m Jewish as well, so does this make me a profiler?).
The skateboarding issue will work itself out, hopefully, without an accident. Just drive a little slower and adjust the mirrors on your SUV. By the way, we currently have one of the finest town councils in the 25 years that I’ve lived here. If you don’t like it, you should run yourself, next election. It’s the American way.
As the famous bumper sticker proclaims, “Skateboarding is NOT a Crime.” I grew up in Southern California on a skateboard. I have no rap sheet or criminal record. You should entertain a little flexibily, especially on the road right now. No one argues that unsafe skateboard travel vs. a motor vehicle could result in a one-way calamity … but as of right now, skateboarding is a not uncommon mode of transportation, and motorists need to recognize this, just as they need to recognize cyclists, just as cyclists need to behave like drivers, just as skateboarders need to embrace the rules of the road.
Maybe your angst is coming from your disappointment in you candidate’s choice for vice president, or the toned-down aspect of your GOP convention. I’ll see you and Alan September 9. In the meantime, for a little sorely needed levity, I suggest going to YouTube and looking up the “Asylum Street Spankers” and their wonderful PG-Rated “Stick Magnetic Ribbons.”
