DENVER Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar took his message of a balanced national energy policy to an audience he hasnt gotten a good reception from lately the oil and gas industry.
The Democrat spoke Friday at a conference by the Denver-based Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain States. He is part of a 16-member bipartisan group in Congress working on a bill that encourages tapping all the countrys resources from oil to gas to renewable energy.
Industry groups have criticized Salazar for trying to block leasing federal land on the Roan Plateau all at once. He favored phasing in oil and gas leases. Salazar also sponsored a moratorium on issuing final regulations for commercial oil shale development.
