Breckenridge Building Center hosts opening celebration

Business has been in county nearly 40 years

BRECKENRIDGE — The public is invited to enjoy face painting, a juggler and drawings for prizes Saturday at the Breckenridge Building Center grand-opening celebration.

“We feel it is a very great asset to the community because we’re able to service everyone,” general manager Denny Rogstad said.

The center’s products range from small hardware items to “materials for building a new home and commercial building sites as well,” he said.

Its new location has about three times the square footage of the former site. The parking lot is much larger as well.

“We’ve expanded a lot of hardware lines,” Rogstad said, adding that the showroom is more than 15,000 square feet.

The celebration will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will include a kiddie moon-bounce castle for kids and hot dogs and refreshments served by Summit High School football players, with proceeds to support the team, Rogstad said.

There will also be a food drive sponsored by Family and Intercultural Resource Center.

“People bring in a can of food, or clothing item, and we’ll give them a free BBC tape measure,” he said.

The building center has been in business since 1970 and is owned by the Brownson family, which also own the Edwards Building Center. Rogstad said they’re having the event to “thank the public for everything they’ve done to support us to make it possible to have the new facility.”

The Breckenridge Building Center serves customers as far as Leadville and Park County.

The location, at 13445 Colorado 9, is about three miles north of Breckenridge at Fairview Boulevard, next to High Country Furniture and Gallery.
