Calling it a blow out would be understating the Summit High football team’s road win against Alameda Friday night. The Tigers amassed 287 yards of offense, scored 42 points and held Alameda scoreless before the second quarter even ended.
“Our defense was outstanding once again,” Tigers’ head coach Dylan Hollingsworth said, “and our offense moved the ball well.”
Senior fullback Jordan Sitkoski rushed for 80 yards on only three carries, and fellow seniors Landon Greve and Talon Roggasch both accounted for two touchdowns apiece in No. 5 Summit’s 42-0 win.
Barely any Summit starters even played following the intermission.
“It’s good to get a game like that to get some younger kids some experience,” Hollingsworth said.
The Tigers struck early in the first quarter when Greve scrambled 35 yards on a quarterback keeper to put Summit up 7-0.
Greve then hit Roggasch on a 31-yard pass, giving the Tigers a first-and-goal. Junior wide receiver Mike Daniels then caught a six-yard strike from Greve for Summit’s second TD.
Not wanting to be left out of the action, the Tiger defense scored the next touch down when Roggasch intercepted an arrent Alameda pass and took it 46 yards to pay dirt.
After Roggasch ran in his second TD of the night from 11 yards, senior offensive tackle Zach Campbell took over the rushing load on the next possession.
“We had actually put that (formation) in during the summer for Zach to run the ball but hadn’t had a chance to do it yet in a game,” Hollingsworth said.
With the way Campbell ran the ball, it would be safe to say the Tigers may use this formation again at some point. The lineman rushed four times for 17 yards and plowed home for a touchdown and a 35-0 Summit lead.
To close out the half, Sitkoski scored on a 65-yard run that got his coach fired up.
“It was one of the most incredible runs that I have seen in all my years of coaching or playing,” Hollingsworth said. “I mean, he had two huge stiff arms, hurdled a kid and plowed through a guy.”
The Tigers, now 8-0 and 7-0 in conference play, will need more plays like that one from their exceptional fullback when they play host to Conifer High School on Friday.
“We need to get our ducks in a row,” Hollingsworth said.
A victory against Conifer would guarantee that the Tigers win their side of the two-tiered conference. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
