A standing ovation goes out to Friends of the Dillon Ranger District volunteers who joined in our Volunteer Celebration Day on National Public Lands Day. In the morning, 64 volunteers (including eight FDRD Crew Leaders) and three Forest Service personnel generated 256 hours of volunteer stewardship (valued at $4,992) on our local National Forest lands.
Project impacts that day included:
— Trail maintenance on 2/3 mile of the Sapphire Point Trail, including 315 feet of wood reinforcement of tread, breakdown of 12 illegal structures, trail delineation and cleaning of erosion control structures
— Disassembly of 700 feet of obsolete buck-n-rail fence along Swan Mountain Road
— Collection of 12 bags of litter and recycling from Sapphire Point to Summit Cove along Swan Mountain Road
These efforts provide for a more sustainable, natural, and pleasing trail experience in this popular forest area for the many users of Summit County’s local National Forest lands!
Following the project, FDRD hosted a Volunteer Celebration Picnic, celebrating over 800 volunteer service days and over 6,000 hours of stewardship of our local National Forest lands during FDRD’s 2008 summer season!
The following volunteers were recognized as for their outstanding efforts – thank you so much for all that you do for FDRD, the DRD, and our local forest lands!
