BRECKENRIDGE Breckenridge residents with dirty drawers and no machines finally have an alternative to bumming off friends, traveling elsewhere or living in filth.
Local launderers Mike Mirzaitdinov and Ikrom Abdugafarov last week opened Breck Laundromat on French Street, between Lincoln Avenue and Washington Avenue.
Weve been getting lots of calls, Mirzaitdinov said.
He said the partners took on the opportunity becuase there were no other coin-operated laundromats in town. The building theyre using had once served as a laundromat, but it has been closed several months.
Town Councilman Dave Rossi said its nice to see the place open again.
Its an amenity I think we can use, for sure, he said.
Mirzaitdinov and Abdugafarov purchased a commercial-laundry operation in town in 2005. Both natives to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the two met in Denver through Mirzaitdinovs cousin.
They worked a several 14-hour shifts over the past two weeks painting, cleaning, replacing equipment and improving the facility.
It was all trashed before, Abdugafarov said, adding that pipes had frozen and the detergent dispenser and change machine were broken.
They pursuaded the buildings owner to let them open the business a couple weeks ago.
It was going to be business offices, Mirzaitdinov said. We said: Why dont you give us the opportunity?
There is still some work to be done, as the two plan to install vending machines and maybe some arcade games; but the large, metal machines are running.
The hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily but may expand with demand.
