It took all summer, but Silvanas Community Gardens committee, along with the help of many volunteers, has sown the seeds necessary to build and plant a community garden next spring.
This would not have been accomplished without the help and guidance of the Town of Silverthorne, which has approved the project and generously donated the land, watering infrastructure and more. Neils Lunceford Nursery has been with us every step of the way with support, donations and advice. Special thanks to Larry Lunceford, Tim Glasco and Megan Bemis. We are grateful for start-up funding from Summit Prevention Alliance. Other sponsors include Live Well Colorado, Don Sather at BigHorn Ace Hardware and Baker, Hogan and Houx.
Thanks to the many participants who attended work sessions, maintained the flower garden at Rainbow Park, planted bulbs, built boxes and did the groundwork needed to realize the reality of a community garden next summer:
Linda Hrycaj, Marie Orlin, Ryan Hyland, Maggie and Bella Butler, Chad Noble, Eddie and Susan OBrien, Bev Mason, Dave Anderson, Joanna Hopkins, Emiko Hull and Carolyn Fugere. Thanks, too, for help from Linda Cooper, Becky Hodgell, Beryl Edney and Rosie Tronnier. Special kudos go to Marie Orlin for Web site maintenance and design and to Dave Anderson for donating our first crop of daffodil bulbs. We cannot forget the inspiration and advice we received from our tour of the Grand County Community Gardens and Morales Farm in Granby with Bonnie Koblitz, Lynn Cassidy and Carol Morales
Thanks to everyone else who showed interest in the start of this project. We hope to see you again in the spring at garden related classes and activities, and next summer as we invite the community to garden. For more information or to get involved, see our website: www.silvanascommunitygardens.org or call secretary Susan OBrien at (970) 468-6062.
