On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance, I want to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Breckenridge Town Council and Town staff. On Oct. 28, the Council approved both a location and funding for the return and display of Engine No. 9.
This antique steam engine ran on the so-called High Line over Boreas Pass, through Breckenridge, and on to Leadville from 1884 through 1937 and pulled the last train through Breckenridge in 1937. It brought people, food and supplies the Town's life blood into Breckenridge for over 50 years. The engine is currently being restored to operating condition by the Colorado Historical Society and will be delivered to the Town in the spring of 2009 when it will become a centerpiece of the events celebrating Breckenridge's 150th birthday. The engine will be located in the south portion of the Wellington Parking Lot on Main Street and will be in operating condition.
Through approval of this project, the Town Council has, once again, demonstrated its commitment to the Town's history, heritage, and preservation. Thank you so much.
