Californias recent Big Sur Half Marathon, a 13.1-mile trail run on the Old Coast Highway along the ocean coastline with fabulous views, attracted this strong Summit County contingent: Susie Magrino, Sharon Schoeffield, Lisa Ferguson, Gini Bradley, Priscilla Peoples, Laura Pless, Cheryl Jensen, Rocket Nelson, Emily Boyd, Cathy Carleton, Donna Miller and Diane Austin, along with a two-woman support team of Kathy Grotemeyer and Cynthia Gordon.
The high altitude ladies fared extremely well with four of them winning their age groups: Emily Boyd, Cheryl Jensen, Lisa Ferguson and Susie Magrino.
Susie says the course is very challenging because it encompasses three 1,000-foot ascents and three 1,000-foot descents.

Nancy and Matt Wyatt of Wyatt West and Cornflower boutiques on Old Frisco Main Street went canal barging in France this fall.
Their report: Our trip was very fun and easy. Biking, hiking, wonderful wine and food, markets, and a great way to see rural France.
France, in general, and the Canal du Midi specifically, is great to barge because one does not need a license to drive the boat, it is safe, and there are not a lot of rules.
We traveled from Port Cassafieres, near Beziers, along the Midi Canal to Castelnaudary. There were 64 locks along the way and we were on the boat for about eight days.
They booked the trip through Le Boat, the US rep for Crown Blue out of Annapolis (www.leboat.ie).
As you can see one could go most anywhere barging, says Matt.
