DILLON The Town of Dillons road reconstruction project will continue, despite high interest rates and a tough economy.
Voters in April approved a temporary 0.5 percent sales tax and allowed the town to take on up to $20 million in debt for road reconstruction that began in town this past summer.
Dillion issued $5 million in bonds for the summers of 2008 and 2009.
Private investors buy the bonds to finance the roads, said town manager Devin Granbery.
The town financed two major projects for this past summer reconstruction on Buffalo Street and Three Rivers Street that are now completed.
Next year, were budgeting for re-construction and improvements to Lower Tenderfoot Street, Gold Run Circle, Lodgepole Stree, and Little Beaver Trail, Granbery said. We have to decide when and how were going to use the next $15 million ... We have a number of streets that are already identified for work. Its going to be a market timing and financial decision. Right now, rates are high in comparison to the market earlier this year.
Town officials hope to pass a second bond issue in the range of $7-8 million for road work, but not until 2010 at the earliest.
