DENVER — Winter storms are pounding Colorado’s mountains and more snow is expected.
The National Weather Service says up to 8 inches of snow have fallen in the north-central mountains.
The eastbound lanes of Vail Pass on Interstate 70 were reopened in phases Tuesday morning after they were closed for bad weather.
Colorado’s western mountains are getting heavy snow and a winter storm warning is in effect for the high elevations of the eastern San Juan Mountains and the La Garita Mountains, which could get 1 to 2 feet of new snow. That includes Wolf Creek and Cumbres passes.
Forecasts of strong winds with gusts up to 50 mph raised concerns about blowing and drifting snow.
Up to 4 inches of snow were expected to fall in parts of the Denver metro area Tuesday.
