Regarding proposed motorcycle trail development in the White River National Forest Travel Management Plan, Alternative G:
We strongly object to the Tenderfoot Motorcycle Trail System proposed in Alternative G in the White River National Forest Travel management Plan. The Summit County Off Road Riders (SCORR) has also proposed that 36 miles of trails in this area be opened for motorcycle use between the water tank at the west end of the Oro Grande Trail in the town of Dillon to the east end of Keystone. If these plans are approved, motorcycle trails will run across United States Forest Service land lying within 300 vertical feet of several high density residential areas in the Keystone area. Every single trail in the area, which historically has been used by hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders, would be shared with dirt bikes and motorcycles. This will present serious conflicts, including noise, dust, safety issues and disturbance to wildlife. The existing hiking trails in these areas should not be expanded to allow motorized use.
We have no objection to creating a place for motorcycle riders to enjoy, but it needs to be in an area that is not adjacent to substantial residential property. With millions of acres in the White River National Forest, there must be a better area for motorcycle riders.
