Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the worlds only daily column powered by 60 grams of sugar in a can with ginseng and caffeine, and niacinamide.
Well be kicking out todays blurble extra quick, before the rush ebbs and our thoughts trail off, losing coherence, crashing and ultimately burning.
We just boarded a bodily and emotional roller coaster that impacts our relationships, habits and temperament.
But energy drinks are healthier than Marlboros; theyre socially acceptable and a fine way to increase productivity. They probably help with weight loss, too.
The powerful formulas come packaged colorful cans with all sorts of bizarre themes like cattle, monsters and rock stars.
The torrential relationship with stimulating beverages began in our youth with Dr. Pepper and Mr. Pibb. We started drinking coffee in our teens, because it made us feel grown-up and helped math homework get done.
In college we got sort of trendy and started sipping yerba mate. Wed bring the gourd and metal straw procured from an international convenience store to class and calmly explain to our peers this was the breakfast of champions.
But the gourd started to smell, so we pitched it.
After a bit of dabbling in chamomile, black, green and foreign teas, we felt nauseated. It seems our gut prefers cold mint tea or none at all.
Espressos a great fix, but requires an expensive machine or a trip to the coffee shop. Its a great way to start the day, but portability is a factor.
Our tooth-stained path has led the body far beyond simple sodas; so weve reached the era of the ultra-potent energy drinks.
And were not alone. High demand is the only explanation for prices and variety more expansive than the chocolate aisle.
Apparently the stimulating chemicals suspended in carbonated, liquid carbs are worth more than a few bites of a sweet treat. And we wont even get into the alcohol-infused energy drinks the basic ingredients supplying an appetite for destruction.

Now here it looks like weve got a KUDOS!! from Blake Williams in Kansas City, going out to the brains behind Breckenridges Ullr Fest online:
Kudos to AtGlobal and brecklivecam.com for their Main Street webcams in Breckenridge. Due to AtGlobals generosity, my wife, kids and I were able to participate in the Ullr Fest parade, watching the festivities via computer from our home in Kansas City. While its not quite the same as being there, we appreciate a view of our favorite place away from home a great deal. Thank you.

Sometimes it can be healthy to take a break from caffeinated beverages. It helps with sleep and we seem to be more relaxed and even energized that way.
It never lasts, though.
One day we rise on the wrong side of the bed and its on with the coffee pot. Ah, sweet sustenance.
But nothing great lasts; the rush ebbed.
Here comes the crash landing:
The head aches, the joints creak and the eyelids wilt.
We want to take a nap, but dont feel like getting up to go rest. Everything is dull.

Its Sunday, and were mixing our energy drinks for a mega-concoction that defeats fatigue for good.
