DENVER — Longtime federal prosecutor David Gaouette (gow-ett) has been named acting U.S. attorney for Colorado, replacing Troy Eid.
Eid resigned Friday to return to private practice. He planned to leave when President-elect Barack Obama took office Jan. 20, but told his staff that the law firm asked him to start immediately.
Eid was appointed U.S. attorney by President George W. Bush and took office in August 2006.
It’s standard for U.S attorneys to resign when a new administration comes in.
Gaouette, first assistant U.S. attorney, has been on staff for 20 years. He will serve until August 7 or until a new attorney is confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
