Copper announces environmental fund grant recipients



The Copper Frisco Environmental Fund is pleased to announce its 2009 grant recipients. The fund supports youth environmental action and education programs throughout Summit and Lake Counties and is proud to provide more than $25,000 to local community groups during this grant cycle.

The Copper Frisco Environmental Fund is proud to announce the eight following 2009 grant recipients:

Summit County Resource Allocation Park, to create a new hands-on, educational center called the Garbage Garage for families to learn about waste management, recycling and resource conservation.

Keystone Science School, to create a new youth pine beetle coalition for Lake County eighth-graders.

Silvana's Community Garden, to fund a children's community garden.

Mountain Mentors, supporting programs to help youth and teens staff zero waste stations at community events throughout the summer, to ensure that event attendees are educated about recycling and composting.

The Breckenridge Elementary School, to help support the installation of photovoltaic solar panels, so the students can learn about renewable power production.

Cub Scout Pack 186, to fund a forest service project, including weed pulling, during the annual Western Family Campout at Officer's Gulch.

The Summit County Preschool, to fund a garden and composting project at the school.

The Frisco Elementary School, to initiate a student composting program.

The Copper Frisco Environmental Fund, dedicated to the environmental sustainability of Copper, Frisco and the surrounding areas, was founded in November 2007 by employees from Copper and the Town of Frisco and to date has granted more than $30,000.
