For 28 years, the Breckenridge Music Festival Gala has been a black-tie event. But this year, organizers want you to dress as a miner wearing your finest clothes — boots optional.
The 29th annual Breckenridge Music Festival Gold Rush Gala is taking a cue from Breckenridge's 150th anniversary, and going gold - gold rush, that is. The gala includes a dinner with a choice of “prospector's roast beef,” “Blue River salmon” or a vegetable dish, as well as a silent and live auction and dancing to a Denver-based band called Heartbeat.
To advance the mining theme, mining artifacts will decorate the ballroom and a historic film about the gold and silver rush will play on a movie screen throughout the evening.
Heartbeat returns to the gala by popular demand and will fill the room with its high-energy Motown, disco, rock, swing, top 40, Latin, country and reggae tunes.
“They were so well received (last year), people just didn't stop dancing,” said Sally Lewis, co-chair of the gala.
The group is one of the most popular variety bands in Denver and plays most major fundraisers, said Bob Alster, owner of Alster Entertainment, which books the band.
And, if you're stumped for ideas for mining attire, take a cue from co-chair Joyce Yob, who's going for a “dressy Western” look with a white ruffle blouse, black broom skirt, turquoise belt and silver jewelry. Men: Here's your hint from Yob - don a tux jacket and jeans.
