Could someone with the Town of Dillon please answer a few questions? How is it that the recpath between Summerwood and the east entrance to Dillon has been closed for several weeks but is able to be open for the Breast Cancer Walk? This closure forces bicyclists, including families with small kids, to ride the shoulder of Hwy. 6, putting them at risk while the recpath sits idle. Please note that I have no issues with the Breast Cancer Walk or any other group using the rec path, I just don't understand why this section is closed when the only construction to it is confined to a roadway at least a quarter mile to the west.
On a related note, why is it that the Dillon Police have resorted to writing traffic tickets to bicyclists who run stop signs in town? Clearly safety is an important concern, but couldn't Dillon provide for everyone's safety just as well by issuing a warning ticket? In this time of economic crisis, we all need to recognize that bicycling tourists contribute greatly to Summit County's economy. Recpath closures and/or barriers combined with over-bearing law enforcement just might send people elsewhere.
