What does recording music and mosaic tile art have in common? Why, Hill Brin of course - a successful mixed media artist who will be exhibiting his work, along with 100 juried artists, at the 26th Annual Breckenridge July Art Festival this weekend.

After 22 years as a recording engineer and producer for the likes of The Pointer Sisters, Tom Petty and Bob Seger, Brin began a second career as a mixed media artist. He specializes in the use of handmade tiles, along with stone, marble, steel, fiber and resin to develop his functional and non-functional art pieces such as tables, mirrors, benches, masks and sculptural forms.

Brin's self-taught art form stems from a gift his great grandmother gave him as a teenager.

“My inspiration to create functional art came from a steel table with hand-painted tiles, which were inlayed into the top of the table,” Brin said.

Extending beyond conventional mosaic tile art, Brin creates pieces usable in the home and garden with his own tile creations and tiles collected from around the world that are colorful, durable and possess beautiful design and texture.

Now in his 15th year as an artist, Brin creates amazing art forms for restaurants, businesses, and art lovers around the country.

“To me, art is not just a job, it is a daily experience that spills into all facets of life, including a simple shopping trip to the local market or viewing the sunset,” he said.

Brin will exhibit at the free 26th Annual Breckenridge July Art Festival. It is one of four art Mountain Art Festivals brought to Summit County by director Mark Beling.
