To the Town of Breckenridge and Summit County government for their recent wetlands open space purchase up near Hoosier Pass. In such tough economic times, it's nice to see that such acquisitions are still possible.

To the efforts of the construction crews working on the Highway 9 widening. The guys and gals have the new route of the recpath up and rolling for the walkers, runners and bicyclists enjoying it this weekend.

We're sure they'll find a way to work together to preserve both chunks of pristine land and the recreational opportunities that make them so enjoyable.

To both Frisco and sheriff's office cruisers blasting down Main Street and Granite in Frisco recently. There are simply too many cyclists and pedestrians on the streets right now for that kind of speed, regardless of the emergency. Slow it down, guys.

Ken John offers his cheers to Mountain Outfitters in Breckenridge. The local retailers organized and hosted a benefit drive at their store recently that resulted in a bunch of outdoor gear and clothing to be collected and donated to Homeless Gear, a Colorado-based nonprofit program that helps the homeless throughout the state.

To the recent trail work done on the switchback above Carter Park. Racers and recreational riders alike will certainly appreciate the new improvements made to the popular trail.

To Dillon cops for ticketing people on bicycles. Not that cyclists shouldn't follow the rules more closely, but warnings and an advance educational campaign would go a long way toward better community relations. Thankfully, that's what the town seems to have in mind next.
