Casino night benefits church
St. Joseph's Catholic Mission in Fairplay is building a new church. The original church was built in 1874 and holds 64 people. Needless to say, after 135 years, parishioners have outgrown it. The new church will be constructed adjacent to the current church. Church officials will maintain the historical integrity of the original church and use it as a parish hall after the new church is built. The church is holding a major fundraiser to raise money for the building. The casino event will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, so people can come and go. A $210 entry fee includes $250 in chips for blackjack, hold-em, craps and roulette. There will also be a silent auction, raffle, door prizes and cash bar. Hotel and RV accommodations in Fairplay are available, and camping is near by.

Give a day, get a night
Volunteering is a rewarding experience for those giving and getting the services provided. But Denver-based Sage Hospitality (www.sagehospitality.com) has taken the reward a step further with its new “Give a Day, Get a Night” campaign. From now until Dec. 20, all 15 Colorado hotels that are managed and owned by Sage Hospitality will honor community service with a half-price stay — or a possible complimentary stay — including the JW Marriott Denver at Cherry Creek in Denver, the Curtis Hotel in Denver, The Westin Westminster in Westminster and 7 local TownePlace Suites by Marriott. In the new campaign, Sage is championing community heroes for pro bono hours at charities such as Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity or any 501c3 organization. By simply supplying a letter on the charity's letterhead proving they've done a full eight hours of service, guests can book at any of Sage's 15 Colorado properties and receive a room at half-price or free, depending on availability.
All 53 Sage Hospitality hotels nationwide will be participating in this campaign, with a limited number of complimentary rooms available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Blackout dates apply. To accommodate all of the volunteers who will want to take part in this program, each hotel will offer a limited number of complimentary stays over the July 1 to Dec. 20 dates. After those complimentary stays are filled, Sage will honor volunteers with rooms at a 50 percent discount.
