Prosecutors filed charges Thursday including attempted first-degree murder against a woman accused of stealing a car as its owner clung to the hood.

DENVER — Prosecutors filed charges Thursday including attempted first-degree murder against a woman accused of stealing a car as its owner clung to the hood.

Kim Lucero, 26, of Denver was arrested Wednesday after a trooper found her stopped along Interstate 25 near Douglas, Wyo., Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Stephen Townsend said.

Townsend said the trooper thought Lucero was having car trouble and stopped to help, then arrested her after learning the 1995 Nissan was stolen from Denver.

Her young daughter, believed to be 3 years old, was put in the care of social workers.

Lucero was being held in the Converse County jail. Authorities have filed an at-large warrant for her arrest.

Denver prosecutors on Thursday charged Lucero with attempted first-degree murder, extreme indifference; first-degree assault, extreme indifference; first-degree assault with intent to cause serious bodily injury; aggravated motor vehicle theft used in the commission of a crime; and aggravated motor vehicle theft resulting in bodily injury.
