BRECKENRIDGE — SolSource, a Denver-based solar design and installation firm, recently opened an office in Breckenridge to help meet local demand for alternative energy.
“There hasn't been a wide variety of providers up here, and in mountain regions there is a demand — I've had many requests from clients who want to lessen their carbon footprint,” said Chris Ebersberg, director of business development with SolSource.
He said he started Wednesday with one referral and ended up doing six estimates by day's end. With projects under way in Breckenridge, Silverthorne and Park County, the business is “starting to make a little presence here,” he said.
The Summit County office's first solar energy installation was completed this week at 581 Preston Way, a residence that's number 15 on the Summit County Parade of Homes. (See today's B-section for more info.)
The 5,500 square-foot home purchased by Allen Ciamporcero, a former president of Verizon, includes a 4.2 kilowatt photovoltaic system capable of producing 6,000 kilowatt hours of energy per year.
Solsource partnered on the project with contractor Colorado Building Company, where Ebersberg previously worked.
The house is to host free, hands-on solar energy seminars today and Sept. 26, and folks don't need to be participating in the Parade of Homes to attend. The seminars begin at 2 p.m.
Ebersberg said SolSource also offers a variety of renewable energy services including heat exchange pumps on residential as well as commercial properties.
“Colorado's one of the best states ever for solar production,” he said.
With the federal and local incentives, he said, “a $30,000 system going in out of pocket would cost maybe $10,000 to the homeowner.”
