Q: What is a major contributor to the influx of new residents and business, adding to the sustainability of current business?
A: Quality schools.
When considering relocating to a new community, most often the question arises “How are the schools?” Sadly for Park County RE-2 Schools, the answer to this question has been that the facilities are outdated, inferior and in need of repair. In this regard, the Park County RE-2 School District has presented our community with an important issue for this year's ballot in November.
Simply stated, the time is right and the time is now to resolve these issues for our schools by way of matching the state funds through our tax dollars. It is estimated that an additional $26.50 per year would be assessed per $100,000 home value. With these funds, our elementary, middle and high schools at the Fairplay campus can be replaced, the historic Edith Teter gymnasium and school building renovated, new athletic fields developed, parking and drop-off areas restructured to eliminate safety concerns, and landscaping improvements achieved. Lake George school would also be replaced in its entirety. We are fortunate to have this opportunity to accomplish the goal of improving the learning conditions for our children.
Thinking back, do you ever recall going to school where the buildings did not meet current building codes and/or environmental health standards? Or perhaps where the roofing and fire prevention systems did not work properly? How about an overall sub-par classroom and classroom equipment? Worse yet, did you ever have your safety compromised while traveling to and from classes? Unfortunately, these problems currently exist for our children while they attend schools in the RE-2 School District.
Please vote “Yes” for 3A, it truly is an investment in our children's' future.
