Special to the Daily
Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world's only daily column that's happy to report that, among our many readers, we can count at least one person from Albania.

(sound of cheering, fireworks, beer cans being opened)

Yes, alert readers of the column may recall we were lamenting just yesterday that one of our very own was held up in Europe because, as he e-mailed, the ferry from Albania ran late. That prompted us to wonder who goes to Albania in the first place, and we received this awesome note from the very country in question:

“Dear Summit Up: ‘Who the hell goes to Albania?!' — I am a Friscoite living in Albania! A wonderful country, with warm, loving, generous people! Who comes to Albania, those who seek a new adventure in a place that will soon be a hot-spot tourist destination. An inexpensive country with beautiful beaches on the Ionian Sea, and an interesting post-communist history. It is where Mercedes-Benz and the donkey-cart vie for the same road. It is a struggling democracy with a long history dating back to the Illyrians. Those who enjoy archaeology will love the ancient ruins of Butrint, it really is a must-see for anyone visiting Albania.

I am a Peace Corps volunteer here in Albania involved with health education. I have been here for 19 months now. I will gladly try to answer any questions regarding Albania. I can be reached at pstefanacci@gmail.com.

I start my day with reading the Summit Daily on line; love the Opinion Section!

Peace to all — Paul Stefanacci”

That's awesome, Paul! Thanks for your note and hopefully some Summiteers will get in touch with you for a tour of the Illyrian dealio ...

OK, we have here another good thing in the form of an Angel Alert! Angel Alert! from Judith McGreevy in Sun City, Arizona (which may well be the opposite of Albania, but we're not sure.) She writes thusly:

“A special thank-you to the caring couple who followed my car into the Silverthorne Rec Center parking lot on Monday morning, Oct. 19. The gentleman warned me that flames were escaping from my Subaru's exhaust. Because of their concern and observation, I was able to have the problem solved by the Vista Auto Group. People like theses make it difficult for me to leave.”

Very nice, Judith. Our only question is this: Why would you not want flames shooting out of your exhaust pipe — like the Batmobile?! That's so cool! We're always trying to get our exhaust pipe to shoot out flames, but it just drips a little watery stuff once in a while, which is not especially awe-inspiring.

But, we of course understand exhaust-pipe flames aren't for everyone. Although we do hear they're all the rage in Albania ...

We out.
