DILLON — Dillon Town Council member Dr. Don Parsons was recently honored by the Colorado Public Health Association (CPHA) with the Dr. John Muth Award for his outstanding contribution to the association.

During Parsons' tenure on the CPHA Board, the American Public Health Association declared CPHA to be the country's outstanding state affiliate for its many contributions to the state, as well as to the nation's public health.

For example, the Public Health Alliance of Colorado was initiated by bringing together under one umbrella organization nine different Colorado public and environmental health associations. Out of this alliance came the drafting and successful passage of the Public Health Revitalization Act of 2008, the first major overhaul of Colorado public health organization and statutes since the 1940s.

Parsons remains involved in various areas of public health, such as tobacco policy through being Chair of the Group to Alleviate Smoking Pollution (GASP), patient safety through the board of the Colorado Patient Safety Coalition, and vaccination through the Lieutenant Governor's VACC, Vaccination Action Colorado Coalition.
