Kim Wittbrodt: One-shot deal for Park County schools

It's your last chance to vote for the future of the Park County Re-2 School District. Your “YES” vote is needed by Nov. 3. At this time, your ballot should be hand delivered to ensure it is counted.

The Re-2 school district was awarded the BEST grant because of the crumbling facilities and many code violations that exist in our current schools. The BEST grant money can ONLY be used to build new facilities on the current site. Relocating the Fairplay campus outside of town would only increase the cost, as a whole new infrastructure would be needed and all of the funds would have to come from the taxpayers. The BEST grant money can ONLY be used to re-build rather than renovate because the assessment conducted by the CDE found that MORE THAN 70 percent of the buildings were beyond repair.

The “Dream Team” of community members that make up the Facilities Committee has worked for months with the CDE to create a plan of action for new school facilities that will house our current student body with up-to-date 21st century equipment. These plans are NOT to build above and beyond the current needs of the district. This group has worked diligently to ensure every dollar is spent on NEED.

An outside owner's representative has been hired to facilitate, manage and coordinate the project. This organization will oversee the entire process to make sure there is continued progress that meets the CDE standards and stays on the time as well as budgetary target. Local sub-contractors will be able to bid on parts of the construction after a general contractor is hired.

This is a one shot deal … please vote “YES” on 3A.
