SUMMIT COUNTY — The sudden and unexpected resignation of Summit County clerk and recorder Cheri Brunvand won't affect the election process today, according to county manager Gary Martinez.
Martinez said the county commissioners held an emergency meeting Monday to appoint deputy clerk Kathleen Neel to fill the position. Neel has served as elections manager for several years. Martinez said her experience in that capacity ensures a smooth election.
According to a press release from Summit County, Brunvand cited personal issues, as well as a determination that the time is right for her to relocate to the Front Range to pursue personal and professional opportunities.
Brunvand has served as the county clerk and recorder since 1997 and worked in the office since 1986.
Neel will serve in the position through January 2011 when the term expires.
The position will be up for election in Nov. 2010.
