The title of the book authored by Barack Obama is “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.” My question is: reclaiming the American dream for whom and by whom?
Barack Obama's audacity of hope may be more prophetic than ever intended by him. Audacious is an interesting word, with a mixed message as to its meaning. I am curious as to what meaning of the word Mr. Obama intended. Could it be intrepidly daring or recklessly bold or rash or contemptuous of law, religion or decorum or insolent? Those are the meanings of the word audacious according to the dictionary.
As far as his presidency is concerned, the definitions seem to fit his actions.
Within days of his inauguration, he signed a spending bill of $20.3 million of our tax dollars to implement an aid plan for Palestinians (ERMA). This certainly could not be a continuation of the past administration for which he had total disdain. Was this what he considered a top priority when he promised to reclaim the American Dream? Why did President Obama think that this was a sound investment for our nation?
The fact that the Federal Reserve has loaned more than $2 trillion to unknown parties or entities … is that a part of reclaiming the dream or simply audacious. What happened to the freedom of information act (FOIA)? It certainly is not transparent.
How about the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac debacles orchestrated by fellow democrats Senator Chris Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank? Whose dream did that reclaim?
The bank bailouts, auto industry takeover and now the proposed Federal health care plan … are these examples of reclaiming the dream? At what price to you, me and our grandchildren?
Where is the fulfillment of hope and the transparency in government promised by this charismatic, silver- tongued, wannabe paragon?
There isn't any question that President Obama has been and is audacious. But, has he been forthright and transparent as to government actions? Is he really qualified to lead the most advanced nation that the world has ever experienced and to lead a world so complex that few of us understand?
The only hope that I have from this administration is that they do not continue to make ill-conceived and poorly executed decisions which will sink us further into despair, as a nation.
