Leno, Celine Dion and Forbes

Leno lagging in ratings

Leno lagging in ratings

Jay Leno should have gone out while he was on top. Now he is stuck in a ratings rut and is about to be pushed out of late night television, a place he used to reign.

“The Jay Leno Show” debuted a couple of months ago at an enviable prime time-slot, and it's initial ratings were big. But that only lasted a week and ratings have been on a fast, downward spiral since.

And if you watched the show, you know why. Leno has gone beyond his expiration date, and just like yogurt, he's gone bad. So can we finally say goodnight to Jay? Not so fast, says NBC. They're trying to resurrect the show by reformatting it to how it used to be when it was “The Tonight Show.”

The executives at NBC seem to think that by bringing back “The Tonight Show” format, Jay's ratings will turn around, and he'll return to being the king of late night. As someone who never understood the appeal of Leno, I think this is a bad idea. People are tired of Leno, and some of us would rather watch a rerun of “Seinfeld” or the news than tune into a washed-up comedian relying on the same old jokes and forgettable skits. Only time, and ratings, will tell Leno's fate.

Celine Dion announces non-pregnancy

We're used to celebrities announcing their pregnancies, like Celine Dion did a few months ago. But we aren't used to hearing celebrities announce that they are un-pregnant.

That's the case with Dion, who achieved pregnancy with in vitro fertilization, only to find out days later that the process didn't take. The doctor that performed the procedure, Dr. Zev Rosenwaks, prematurely announced the pregnancy before he even realized that the embryo transfer didn't work.

If I were Dion, I would probably find a doctor who's better at keeping his mouth shut, but she's determined to get pregnant again with the help of Rosenwaks, the man who successfully helped her conceive her son Rene, 8.

Dion and her husband remain optimistic that they will achieve pregnancy. “We are living the reality of the majority of couples who have to use IVF. The process can be long and arduous,” said Dion's husband Rene Angelil of their failed attempts at pregnancy. “But Celine is full of confidence and is more determined than ever.” Although it's probably not the most desirable news to be sharing publicly, kudos to Celine and Rene for speaking openly about their battle with infertility. Finally, a celebrity who admits that her life is not perfect.

Forbes richest

Ever wonder how much money Howie Mandel makes for hanging out with models and opening briefcases on “Deal or No Deal?”

Forbes magazine just revealed the highest paid prime time television personalities, and it's kind of sickening that Simon Cowell tops the list at $75 million a year. That seems like an absurd paycheck for someone who sits around sipping coke and judging (mostly) untalented vocalists.

Donald Trump makes pennies compared to what he's normally used to with $50 million for “Celebrity Apprentice.” Ryan Seacrest comes in at a deserving third place with $35 million, which seems disappointing for all the jobs he holds down.

Rounding out the top five are sitcom studs Charlie Sheen and Steve Carell with $21 million and $20 million, respectively. Howie Mandel and Katie Couric both make the top 10 with their matching salaries of $15 million a year. Yes, that's right. Couric delivers the CBS evening news while Mandel gives fist fives and talks to barely dressed models for a living. In Mandel's defense though, he is a lot more upbeat and entertaining than the news.
