SILVERTHORNE — The Town of Silverthorne's economic development advisory committee met with Xcel substation representatives Todd Anderson and Larry Claxton to discuss the proposed Xcel substation on Oct. 27.
“Xcel was a guest at the regular quarterly EDAC meeting,” said assistant to the town manager Ryan Hyland. “They were looking for support and reiterating the need for a new substation to support Silverthorne and the surrounding areas.”
According to the town manager's report in Silverthorne's Tuesday town agenda packet, the economic advisory committee told Xcel representatives that “it was premature for Xcel to ask for support” since a specific proposed site hasn't been chosen yet.
Xcel identified two locations at an August open house in the Silverthorne Pavilion for its proposed substation to service Silverthorne — a location on the Angler Mountain Ranch (site 8) and a location near the water tower on the Daley Ranch (site 10). The Angler Mountain Ranch is located in Silverthorne and the Daley Ranch is in unincorporated Summit County.
Both sites are located east of Silverthorne, and they were presented to the public as preferred sites because company representatives said they're exploring a smaller, gas-insulated substation design that's potentially easier to hide.
