Baxter Pharr, in his mid-November letter to the editor attempting to de-bunk Dr. Martin Hertzberg's guest column on the hoax of human-caused global warming, has asked the question of who are we to believe. Apparently, the vote of confidence is between two camps of thought.
On one hand, we have a group including our local expert, Dr. Hertzberg, promoting the idea that the theory of human (anthropogenic) caused global warming (AGW) is a hoax. This group consists of a myriad of scientists, meteorologists, geologists and educated and informed citizens.
On the other hand, we have a group which consists of so-called independent scientific thinkers whose livelihood is dependent upon research grants funded by organizations who want a one-sided discussion of global climate change, Al Gore and those of his ilk, who see the personal economic and political power gains to be made by leading a crusade against their invented ecological disaster of AGW, regulated power generation and distribution monopolies that can legally pass the cost plus profit of uneconomically produced “green” energy to their customers and corporations who stand to make billions in the creation of an infrastructure to produce and distribute inefficient, expensive “green” energy e. g. food plant based ethanol.
Interested readers that have either not made a conclusion about the validity of AGW or those who have an impression based solely on information forwarded by the dominant mass media and other institutions who do not welcome considered alternate opinion would do their county and planet well by looking at both sides of this issue. Lest Dr. Hertzberg be accused of being a hack or paid consultant for the evil oil industry or a right wing ideologue, Dr. Hertzberg is a self-described liberal democrat. Dr. Hertzberg has a Ph.D. in physical chemistry and was trained as a meteorologist in the Navy. He spent the last 23 years involved in the issue of global climate change while pursuing his primary careers and is an internationally recognized expert on explosive gasses. Dr. Hertzberg is a local expert on the subject of global warming. Kudos to Dr. Hertzberg for having the intellectual honesty to express his expert opinion irrespective of its non-conformity to his political party's views on AWG.
