Summit bantams earn split of weekend games

In the team's last action before its holiday break, the Summit hockey bantam A team split games with the Jr. Eagles and Vail.

The team's opening game, on the road in Lakewood, was a fairly one-sided affair. Summit defenders Sean Farley, Blake Horan, Levi Ascher and Ben Schoeffield were kept on their heels all day against the blistering Jr. Eagle attack, which helped the Front Range squad to a 6-1 win.

Summit's lone goal in the game came from Peter Grotemeyer, assisted by Connor Hebert.

Even in the loss, first-year bantam Reiker Edstrom had an impressive game between the pipes for Summit, stopping an astounding 46 of 52 shots.

Summit's game against Vail went much better. Horan slammed in a wrap-around goal in the second period — assisted by Luke Egging and Sam Herwig — for the only tally of the game, helping Summit to a 1-0 victory.

The shots in the game were even, and Summit goalie Hunter Marsh proved to be the difference maker after recording his first shutout of the season.

With a few days off for Thanksgiving, the bantams now have a 1-1-1 record on the year.
