The men's U.S. Alpine Ski Team will be holding a meet-and-greet with the public on Saturday from 5-6 p.m. at the Breckenridge Recreation Center.
The team will be using the rec center's facilities for the rest of the month and into December, said Helen Cospolich, marketing coordinator for the Town of Breckenridge Recreation Department. Already a couple races into the year, the team is doing some off-snow training in Breck to prepare for the long haul to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver in February.
“The Breckenridge Recreation Center is an outstanding facility for our off-the-snow training,” U.S. Ski Team men's technical coach Ben Black said in a statement released by the rec center. “It offers the equipment and space we need to keep the athletes primed for competition. We look forward to spending time here during this Olympic year.”
Two-time World Cup overall champ Bode Miller has been using the facility in recent weeks, as has Olympian Steve Nyman, Cospolich said. However, both skiers will be in Lake Louise, Alberta, for a World Cup Race this weekend.
The team will still have a number of its top skiers in attendance Saturday, though. Tim Jitloff, Jake Zamansky, Jimmy Cochran, Tim Kelley, Tommy Ford, Will Brandenburg, Paul McDonald, David Chodounsky and Nolan Kasper are expected to be at the team's meet-and-greet.
The team is mixing its dryland conditioning work at the rec center with on-snow training at the nearby resorts. Last week, both the men's and women's alpiners were at Copper Mountain, training for both GS and downhill.
This marks the second straight year that the ski team has chosen Breck as its off-snow headquarters. The team held an autograph session last year as well.
Saturday's event is open to the public, so memberships and day passes to the center are not required.
