Joe Woodrow and Greg Rolfe have a tenure combination of 54 years at Safeway and are headed to the “check-out” stand.
They are retiring.
Joe retired yesterday after almost 19 years as the head clerk and store bookkeeper.
Greg will wrap up his “paper or plastic” checker career after the holidays, calling an end to a total of 35 years.
Joe is headed to Albuquerque, N.M., to be closer to kids Helena, a school teacher dating Kirkland Air Force Base Capt. Dave Kinton; and son Daniel, who manages a Chili's and his wife Shannon, a dental hygienist, expecting their first child, a daughter, in February.
Locals will remember Helena as a member of the US Ski Team Development Squad and later as a member of the University of New Mexico's NCAA Division I national championship team.
As for Joe, 58, he is anxious to get to a longer golfing season. He will continue his second job as a college used book buyer for Keystone residents Bob and Nancy Follett's 137-year-old Follett Higher Education Group, where's he's worked for nearly the same amount of time as his grocery store career.
Calling it a career's end prompted Joe to say, “It was the people I worked with and meeting the general public” as reasons he enjoyed his Safeway job.
Working for store manager Curt Overlee is Joe's fourth boss.
Like Joe, Greg has worked for four managers, his first here was the popular Bob Fowler, now retired and golfing in Tucson, Ariz.
Greg came from Grand Junction when the giant grocer closed three of its five stores there when the Western Slope oil shale bubble burst.
With just under 10 years under his belt, Greg came to Frisco in 1984. He will stay put here after he completes his three plus decades with Safeway.
Greg, 57, is easily spotted around town on his yellow and black Can-Am Spyder 990cc Twin three-wheeled motorcycle, his latest ride since getting his first at age 15.
A big fan of small music concerts and festivals, with Bluegrass his favorite now, Greg will keep on attending those on a Colorado circuit.
Although not a player himself, Greg says, “I love music, and every musician needs an audience — that's me,
I fill the gap.”
Over the years, Greg has had second jobs, working for vendors, and not long ago finished up seven years as a part-time tortilla routeman.
Both nice guys pointed out that fellow employees Crystal Matthews and Lisa Putnam have put in many years with Safeway.
Joe and Greg invite you to a happy hour party at Carlos Miguel's on Monday, Dec. 21, 3:30-6:30 p.m. No presents.

Congrats to Paul Kelly, who will be graduating this month from Colorado State University with a degree in marketing, minor in English and a certificate in entrepreneurship.
Mom Linda Kelly says, “Paul is looking for any type of work at this time. If you know of any opportunity — no matter what the job, please let me know. He has work references. He is very dependable and will make a great employee. Thank you.”

Spotted in downtown Cabo San Lucas over the Thanksgiving holiday were Friscoites Myra and Chris Eby and daughter Winter of Frisco and Silverthorners Mary Frances and Rich Ahlquist and son Ricky. The Ahlquists have a casa up in Todos Santos on the Pacific Coast, right on the Tropic of Cancer.
Also down that way were BJ McCarthy of Frisco and son Lennon McCarthy of Denver.
