For the first time all season, the Summit High girls' basketball team played with its normal roster. Unfortunately for the Tigers, it didn't add up to a win.
The Tigers lost 57-26 to a strong squad from Green River, Wyo., in the first round of the Steamboat Springs Shootout in Steamboat on Thursday afternoon.
“They were a good team, very disciplined and played well as a team,” SHS head coach Rachel Dunaway said. “But it was still our rebounding and turnovers that killed us.”
In the loss, senior Jeana Holman made her season debut after missing the first four games of the year due to illness. And the Tiger veteran made her presence felt with a team-high 14 points.
Fellow senior Julie Oberriter chipped in four points.
“It was nice having the girls back that had been missing,” Dunaway said. “Right now we just need to figure out how to play as a team. That's our focus.”
Luckily, the Tigers will get that chance twice more this week. Summit (0-5) plays again today at 3 p.m., though its opponent had yet to be decided at time of print. The Tigers will then play again on Saturday.
“We'll see how it goes,” Dunaway said of the weekend, “but we'll definitely be able to work on some stuff.
“The more games we can have right now, the better. I wouldn't mind having more of these three-game tournaments.”
