Running the gamut of events — from snowboarding to alpine skiing — some local Team Summit athletes had an impressive week of competition.
In snowboarding, five Team Summit members earned podium spots in at least one event at a USASA slopestyle and halfpipe competition at Copper Mountain.
Sarah Khavari, in the girls' junior division, won both in the pipe and on the slopestyle course.
Daniel Adams, in the boys' open class almost had as much success as Khavari. Adams won the slope comp and finished third in the pipe.
Also placing well were Ali Khavari (second in slope, fourth in pipe for open division), Luke Emaus (second in pipe for youth class) and Katie Pool (fourth in pipe, third in slope for breaker girl class).
The team also had skiers competing in an Elite FIS super-G race last Sunday, as well as an FIS University slalom event in Park City on Monday.
In the super-G, men's racer Luc Henri Chevlier won the race with times of 50.36 and 50.97 on his two runs. Also putting in good times were Mark Miller, Connor McDonald, Ryan Messet, Cory Ketai and Nicholas Burns. All five of the skiers finished within the top-10 on at least one of their two runs in the competition.
On the women's side, Ellie Hartman had the best time of the competition for Team Summit racers. Her 54.27 on Run 2 put her in sixth place. Also competing in the female bracket were Miranda Sheely — who finished in the top-nine for both runs — and Nicole Anderson. Anderson finished 12th and ninth, respectively, on each of her runs.
In Park City, full-time racers Fletcher McDonald and Hunter Black had impressive finishes in a field of stellar skiers. McDonald wound up 14th in the slalom event, while Black was 27th. In the giant slalom, Black was 21st and McDonald 30th.
Team Summit also had some J1- and J3-level skiers competing in a downhill competition in Vail. Nick Burns, Sarah Peron, Ciara Morrison and Marni Seserman all completed their runs in their first-ever attempts at a downhill speed race.
The team also had a few skiers competing in freestyle competitions.
U.S. Ski Team member Mikaela Matthews finished fifth last Saturday at a competition in Steamboat Springs, while fellow Team Summit skier, Luke Kaminecki, was 10th on the men's side.
Kendal Wright, Kelsey Hubble, Kira Wright and Joshua Jenkins also competed for the team.
