SILVERTHORNE — The Town of Silverthorne is asking residents to give feedback on the future of Rainbow Park, the town's largest public park, located adjacent to the Silverthorne Recreation Center.
The park is currently home to a playing field, playground, skate park, tennis courts, volleyball courts and other amenities.
Two vacant spaces remain inside the park's boundaries, and the playground equipment is in need of replacement. During the past month, town staff and members of the Silverthorne Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails (SPORT) Committee have sought ideas and suggestions for future additions or changes to the park.
“The display in the recreation center lobby is getting a lot of attention,” said Joanne Breigenzer, Silverthorne recreation and culture director. “Rainbow Park is such a great amenity in our town, and it sparks people's interest.”
Popular suggestions from the public include a skate-park expansion, a fenced-in dog park, a BMX bike park, and a walking path showcasing native vegetation.
On Monday, March 8, the town will present three separate visions for the park that incorporate residents' ideas in different ways.
“Anyone who wants to participate in the update process can do so. We hope that everyone interested will attend the next public meeting, because there will be an opportunity for discussions with staff and SPORT members,” Breigenzer said.
The three alternative plans are on display at the Silverthorne Rec Center. Those who cannot attend Monday's meeting may submit written comments at the rec center or provide comments via phone or e-mail.
A final plan, based on public feedback, will go before the SPORT Committee at 6 p.m., March 18, at Silverthorne Town Hall. The public is invited to attend. The town council will review the final plan, which will be available at the rec center and online at www.silverthorne.org.
