Summit High School will hold its first-ever Jazz Fest and Market 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.
The SHS Jazz Band will perform in the school's auditorium in a competition against five other schools, all judged by professional jazz musicians.
Outside the auditorium, students, community artists and vendors will sell their wares at about 25 booths featuring crafts, photography, artwork, food, drinks, jewelry, cookware, children's books and more. One SHS music student will host a booth to sell his own handmade wind chimes and chocolates.
“We've got a nice variety of things, and people will really be shopping locally,” said event organizer Louanne Fatora.
The event will raise money to help pay for travel expenses for the SHS band's trip to Europe next spring. They will visit Vienna, Prague and Budapest to explore the history of music. About 60 students plan to make the trip.
“They're already acquainted with a lot of the classical composers, and they're excited about going because of the music,” Fatora said.
