Cesar Munoz: Scared into stupidity?

Invasion? Mr. Coyote, is that why you're scared of a ban on assault weapons, calling it "attempted Constitution tampering?" But the Arizona immigration law is constitutional? Then, do you believe the legal challenge against the Arizona law by the Justice Dept. is unfounded? If so, will you contribute generously to the Arizona governor's legal defense fund?

I agree with Obama that we are not defined by our borders - every country has those; but no other country has that superlative document, the Declaration of Independence, wherein the conviction is established that man's inalienable rights transcend borders and race. Therein lies our greatness!

McClintock's comment about "abiding by rules of diplomacy" and chastising Mexico's president for meddling in "domestic debates" is laughable considering actual meddling by the U.S., e.g., the 1953 Iranian coup, the 1954 Guatemalan coup, the 1961 Bay of Pigs Invasion, the 1973 Chilean coup, the mining of Nicaraguan harbors and the support of the Contras in the 1980's, etc. So much for others' national sovereignty!

For you or McClintock to even mention the "Reconquista" conspiracy theory is beyond ridiculous - that is racist! Barry Morrison, a director of the Anti-Defamation League, specifically uses that absurd theory as an example of "spreading fear and propaganda and using vitriolic language once limited to White supremacists."

Roosevelt's quote does not apply to the majority of Latino immigrants who are temporarily here to work with no intention of severing ties to their homeland, which is relatively close-by. They would prefer a guest-worker program in sync with market forces rather than a commitment to "becoming in every facet an American." (How frightening to imagine more gluttonous, over-consumptive Americans!)

Repeat a lie enough times, and people will accept it as the truth, e.g., "... an average of 25 American citizens are killed every day as a direct result of illegal aliens." (Your letter, SDN: Sept. 11, 2006) "Their numbers have exceeded 20 million in the last 10 years!" and "... these are the people who are pouring into our urban areas, these are the people who are polluting the cities, these are the people who come to this country, have a bunch of kids, live off the welfare system such as it is and change the voting demographic ..."(Your letter, SDN: April 28, 2006)

You have scared Americans into stupidity! Survey says: A majority of Americans support the Arizona law "even though it may lead to racial profiling."
