SILVERTHORNE — The Silverthorne Ice Cream Social and Concert will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Silverthorne Pavilion. The free annual community event will feature a performance by the 20-member Summit Concert Band, which will play a mix of Americana music.
“We've been doing it for a long time,” said recreation coordinator Nancy Bomgardner. “It caters to all ages, and ice cream is always good on a hot summer day.”
The concert will take place inside the Pavilion, where attendees can dig in at a build-your-own-sundae buffet.
At the event, the town will accept donations for the Silverthorne Recreation Center Youth Scholarship Fund. Each year, the fund covers fees for swimming lessons, tumbling classes and other recreational programs for about 15-20 children of financially strapped families.
“It's a really nice thing we're able to do. And we're glad to do it for some of our community members who don't get to use the recreation center as much as others,” Bomgardner said.
Residents and visitors across Summit County are encouraged to attend.
“It's a good way for people to get out and hear some music and hang out at the Pavilion, which is a great venue,” Summit Concert Band's Jeff Scott said.
The Pavilion is located at 400 Blue River Pkwy., just north of the intersection of Highway 9 and Interstate 70.
